Busy Night

After a slow day for traffic, Sunday evening ended with a flurry of traffic. The problem is that I couldn't identify any of them. In the past, I could use the scanner to identify ships in the dark because we are located between 6 Mile Point and 9 Mile Point, both call-in points. With the advent of AIS, ships are no longer calling in as often.

I have heard that there may be AIS locations available on-line next spring. If any of you have information, please tell us about it. Thanks.

I found this web site with some information on AIS.

Is this the same system in use at the Holiday Inn and at the Soo visitor center? I would love to have that installed on my computer. We live about 3 hours to the south of you in Bay City and I love the Soo so it would bring it a little closer to you up there.. Thanks, Tom

The AIS system is what was installed at the Sault Visitor Center this summer. I don't know if it is at the Holiday Inn. I've heard talk that next spring there might be Internet access for AIS available to anyone who is a member of the Sault Locks Visitor Association. That is a public organization open to membership from anyone.
