Using Facebook for boatwatching

Greetings to my fellow boatwatchers,
The shipping season, 2013, is now underway.  I am very excited about the new possibilities for those of us who love to watch the big boats on the Great Lakes and the St. Marys River.

I'll start today with how I follow the boats on Facebook.  Each year, there seems to be more opportunities for information on Facebook for those of us who love to watch the boats.  I have tried to plac clips of what the Facebook pages look.  If you have any questions or difficulty accessing these pages,  I would appreciate hearing so we can let all the readers know.

If you have other pages or resources on Facebook or other social media, please let us know in the comments or shoot me an email at saultboatwatcher@gmail.com.

Boatnerds of Facebook is a good place to start.  This is a open group you can request to join.  There are currently around 1,500 members.  You will see great pictures of boats posted with regularity.

My very favorite page on Facebook for learning about life on-board a freighter is M.V. Algolake.  The Algolake crew lets  us see with pictures and videos what life is like for them.  My favorite post this past year was the pictures of Thanksgiving dinner for the crew.  We met the chef, saw the menu and then had pictures of the meal.  It looks to me that crew members eat very well.

I love Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Facebook page is also an interesting page to follow.  Although they post about many activities in the Soo, there are lots of boat pictures.  Just 'like' their page to have it appear in your news feed.

Keep in touch boatwatchers.  Looking forward to hearing from you.  Next post will be my favorite Twitter accounts to follow.
